The Star City VFD was alerted along with Mon EMS and Greene
County Co. 18 for a Motor Vehicle Accident with injuries at mile
158 Northbound of Interstate 79 at 22:04. Initial reports
stated that the MVA was a tractor trailer versus a camper. Unit
202 and Engine 201 both responded. Unit 202 arrived on scene
following Squad 69 at 22:15. 20-2 set up incident command and
declared I-79 Northbound shutdown due to impassable debris
across both lanes of the interstate. Crews found what was left
of a camper in the middle of the interstate. Also involved in
the accident was a pickup truck and a tractor trailer. It
appeared that the camper-trailer came unhitched from a truck
traveling in the Southbound lanes. The camper then crossed the
median and struck the pickup which in turn was run into the
guardrail by the tractor trailer. The driver of the pickup
escaped with minor injuries and was transported by Mon EMS to
Ruby Memorial Hospital. No other injuries were reported.
Northbound lanes remained close for approx. 2 hours while the
massive amount of debris was cleaned from the roadway. Crews
assisted with the cleanup and traffic control. Greene County
Co. 18 responded to assist but was returned to service because
of road conditions. Remaining units cleared at 00:12.
