Power outage leads to fire at Lakeview
(2/15/05)
A back-up generator on the roof of the
main Lakeview Golf Resort & Spa building kicked on Sunday night
when power went out. A pipe through the walls overheated and set
the walls on fire.
The damage reportedly mostly involved smoke damage and
wasn’t too extensive. The resort was open for business Monday.
Calls to Lakeview’s manager were not returned Monday.
The building had been evacuated when the fire call went in
shortly before
10 p.m.
Cheat Lake, Brookhaven, Granville and
Star
City volunteer fire departments were at the scene.
About 3,300 Allegheny Energy customers in the Cheat Lake area
lost electricity at about
5:45 p.m.
Sunday when a car snapped a power pole near the Purple Cow
Lounge. One Cheat Lake resident said his power wasn’t restored
until about 3 a.m. Monday.
Fire companies battle Lakeview fire
(2/14/05)
Firefighters from four departments were still
battling a fire early today at Lakeview Golf Resort & Spa,
according to a firefighter from Cheat Lake Volunteer Fire
Department.
The resort had been evacuated, the firefighter said.
According to a dispatcher at MECCA, the fire was called in at
9:54 p.m.
Firefighters from Brookhaven, Granville and Star City, in
addition to Cheat Lake, were battling the blaze, the dispatcher
said.
The fire started with a back-up generator, according to
scanner reports and the firefighter. The Cheat Lake area
experienced a widespread power outage Sunday, but it was not
known if that contributed to the fire.
