10/25/2005 - Structure Fire - The Villas

    At 2306 hours on 10/25/2005, Companies 20, 17(Granville), and 23(Westover) were alerted for a fire alarm at The Villas, 1335 Stewartstown Road.  Initial reports indicated a general fire alarm in building K.  Engine 203 and Tower 204 responded.  Engine 203 arrived on scene and reported nothing showing on a three story apartment complex.  E-203's crews investigated to find water leaking into approx. 4 apartments.  While investigating the source of the leak, 20-6 found a sprinkler activated in a single apartment and a smoke condition.  He then ordered a charged hose line and ventilation equipment.  It was found that the fire started on the stove and was successfully extinguished by the sprinkler with no extension.  Crews remained on scene for salvage operations and water clean up.   Maintenance replaced the sprinkler head and the fire system was restored.  Also on scene were Engine 173, Engine 233, Engine 201 and Squad 231.   Red Cross was notified for the displaced residents.  Last Units cleared at 0206 hours.
