A ‘Thank You’ from the community

Members of the community stopped by this morning and left us a little message. Having the support of our community is what gets us through these difficult time. We won’t forget.

National Doctor’s Day

Happy National Doctor’s Day to all physicians nationwide! A special shout out to our Medical Director, Dr. Katie Hill. Your tireless support and expertise to our Fire and EMS Divisions are invaluable. Thank you for everything you do!

Coronavirus in WV

WV receiving its first confirmed case of COVID-19 was inevitable. Our EMS Division is on the front lines everyday working along side our friends at Mon EMS to provide safe and effective transportation of those in need during this difficult time. We are in constant communication with the Mon County Health Dept and the CDC utilizing best practices and most up to date guidelines.

As we move forward in the next several days and weeks to come remember all the first responders in Monongalia County that come to work every day, without fail, to serve our community. Most ambulances and fire trucks don’t fit through drive-throughs adding new challenges to what will be our normal for a while.

Please stay safe. Follow the guidelines of the Health Dept and CDC. Have any questions? Give the experts a call and get factual information.

ECMO Transport Collaboration

At 5:15 pm last night Star City Fire & EMS was requested to respond to Wheeling Hospital for a critical transport back to Ruby Memorial. The patient was in such critical condition that it required the specialized services of the HealthNet 1 crew consisting of a critical care nurse and critical care paramedic; in addition to an advanced practitioner from Ruby Memorial Hospital. This call constituted the first ECMO transport for Star City Fire & EMS. It took the work of EVERYONE to get this patient safely transported back to Ruby. “Patient Care First” is not just something we say, it is something we do. Inter-agency cooperation at its finest.
