10/28/2015: Vehicle Fire

Wedgewood Car Fire

10/28/2015: At 0825 Company 20 was alerted to a vehicle fire at the Wedgewood Medical Arts building off VanVoorhis Road. Initial size-up yielded a single vehicle with smoke and flames showing and possibly endangering a structure. Engine 201 and Ambulance 28 responded to the incident and upon arrival found one passenger vehicle in the parking area with substantial smoke and flames showing from the engine compartment, but no apparent danger to the structure. (1) 200ft 1 3/4″ crosslay was utilized for access to the vehicle and to extinguish the fire. Due to the quick response and effective scene work of the responding personnel the passenger compartment was very minimally involved. As a result, all personal belongings inside the vehicle (including the paper registration and insurance cards in the glovebox) were able to be returned to the owner of the vehicle undamaged.

10/20/15: 18 Wheeler Fire

3

10/20/15: Company 20 was alerted for a vehicle fire on I-79 in the area of the 157 milemarker Northbound. Additional calls to MECCA gained further information that an 18 wheeler’s trailer was on fire. Engine 201 and Tower 204 (who both had just cleared from a fire alarm) responded with full crews to the incident. Upon arriving on scene Co. 20 personnel found the left rear area near the wheels of the trailer on fire. I-79 Northbound was shut down by Tower 204’s crew while Engine 201’s crew began extinguishing the fire. Investigation into the interior of the trailer revealed minimal damage to the contents (food packages) above the fire with no extension to the remainder of the trailer. Since the vehicle was fully extinguished, off the side of the road and the operator was able to secure transfer of the products, Company 20 personnel were able to release the scene to WVDOT courtesy patrol and return to service.
